Spa & Swim Spa Wiring in Geelong
A spa or swim spa isn't a normal plug-in appliance — it draws far more power than a power point can safely handle, and needs its own dedicated, hard-wired circuit with specific safety protections built in. Most spa and swim spa retailers will tell you to arrange a licensed electrician before delivery, because the unit generally can't be filled or powered on until that circuit is installed and tested. LJ Electrical Group installs spa and swim spa wiring across Geelong and the Bellarine — from Belmont and Highton to Grovedale, Waurn Ponds, South Geelong and Armstrong Creek — to the relevant AS/NZS standards.
We couldn't be happier with the quality of work Zack did on the installing our spa. Running power to the site was seamless and a really neat finish and the meter box got a complete update as part of the overall process.
What a compliant spa installation requires
- A dedicated hard-wired circuit — typically 32 amp, sized to your spa's requirements
- RCD (safety switch) protection
- An emergency stop or isolation switch within three metres of the spa, as required under AS/NZS 2610
- Equipotential bonding of surrounding metalwork
- Underground cable runs and trenching where the spa is away from the house
- A separate circuit for the heat pump, where one is fitted
- A switchboard upgrade is often needed alongside — many older boards have no spare capacity for a 32 amp circuit
- A Certificate of Electrical Safety supplied on completion
Working with spa retailers
We work with spa and swim spa retailers across Geelong and the Bellarine, and we're happy to attend site before delivery to confirm exactly what your model needs — circuit size, cable route, and whether the existing switchboard has capacity. If you're a retailer or supplier, feel free to send this page to your customer — we'll coordinate timing directly with them so the power is ready and tested before the spa arrives.

Spa & swim spa wiring pricing
- Cost depends mainly on the distance from your switchboard to the spa, and whether trenching is needed to get there.
- The spa's amperage and whether a heat pump needs its own circuit also affect the job.
- If your switchboard has no spare capacity, a switchboard upgrade is usually needed alongside the spa circuit.
- We always quote fixed and upfront after assessing the site.
