EV charger installation pricing

  • EV charger installations start from $700 for a straightforward job - a short cable run with spare capacity in the switchboard.
  • Complex installs reach $3,500. That means long underground cable runs, three-phase supply, or a charger a long way from the switchboard.
  • What moves the price: distance from the switchboard to the parking space, whether the switchboard has spare capacity, single versus three-phase supply, load management requirements, and underground versus surface cable runs.
  • We always quote fixed and upfront after assessing the switchboard.

Charger brands we install

We regularly install and supply Tesla Wall Connectors, Zappi, Fronius Wattpilot, Wallbox and Ocular home chargers, matched to your vehicle, budget and switchboard capacity. Already bought your own unit? We're just as happy to install a customer-supplied charger — let us know the brand and model when you get your quote.

What customers say about our EV charger installations

  • ★★★★★
Zack from LJ Electrical installed a level 2 EV charger in our driveway on an exterior veranda post. This was the most efficient way for us to charge our car without unnecessary expensive cabling. I was very pleased with the competitive quotation process, works completed and communication.

Great experience having Zack install my EV charger - gave me multiple outcome options in the quote, finished the job on the day and was a pleasure to deal with. Great communication. Highly recommend.

EV charger installs — FAQs

Can my switchboard handle an EV charger?

We assess your switchboard and supply first. If an upgrade is needed we'll include it in your fixed quote — see our switchboard upgrade service.

Single-phase or three-phase charger?

It depends on your supply and how quickly you want to charge. We'll recommend the right option for your home and budget.

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Most straightforward home installs take half a day to a full day, depending on the cable run and whether any switchboard work is needed. More complex jobs — long underground runs, three-phase upgrades or commercial multi-bay setups — can take longer. We'll give you a clear timeframe as part of your fixed quote before we start.

Can you install any brand of charger?

Yes. We regularly install Tesla, Zappi, Fronius, Wallbox and Ocular chargers, and we're happy to fit almost any Type 2 charger on the market. If you've already bought your own unit we can install that too — just let us know the model and we'll confirm it's compatible with your switchboard and supply.

What is the difference between a 7kW and a 22kW charger?

A 7kW charger suits most homes on a single-phase supply and adds roughly 30-40km of range per hour of charging. A 22kW charger needs three-phase power and charges much faster, but most electric cars can't actually accept the full 22kW — so the real-world benefit depends on your vehicle's onboard charger, not just the wall unit.

Do I need three-phase power for an EV charger?

Not necessarily — a single-phase 7kW charger is enough for most households and daily driving. Three-phase suits higher-power charging or larger properties, but not every home has three-phase supply, and bringing it in can mean upgrading the switchboard. We'll assess your supply and recommend the right option — see our switchboard upgrades page if extra capacity is needed.

Can I just charge from a normal power point?

Technically yes, but we don't recommend it. A standard power point charges very slowly (often 15-20 hours for a full charge), isn't designed for that continuous a load, and can overheat if the circuit or wiring isn't up to it. A dedicated EV circuit with proper protection is faster, safer, and won't overload your household wiring.

Is there a Victorian rebate for home EV chargers?

Rebate and incentive schemes for home EV chargers do come and go, and eligibility and amounts change over time, so we don't quote a specific figure here. When you get a quote from us we'll let you know what, if anything, is currently available and help you understand how to apply if there's a scheme active at the time.

Can you install a charger at a rental or strata property?

Yes, though both usually need a bit more planning. For rentals, we recommend getting written landlord consent before work starts. For strata (apartments/units), body corporate approval is often required, and we may need to run cabling through common property or negotiate a dedicated meter. We're happy to talk through the requirements with you and, where useful, the owners corporation.
